Gender Based Violence

Gender-based violence is deeply rooted in gender inequality, and continues to be one of the most notable human rights violations in Uganda. Gender-based violence is violence directed against a person because of their gender. Although both women and men experience gender-based violence, majority of victims in Uganda are women and girls. Gender based violence ranges from emotional and physical violence.

In Uganda, young girls continue to experience sexual violence /abuse and this goes unreported for fear of stigma. Young girls continue to be forced into early and child marraiges denying them an opportunity to complete school.

At DEC we work towards preventing gender based violence by providing information, referring /reporting cases of violence, providing psychosocial and economic support to victims of violence
